My Gardens
I have spent my whole life surrounded by gardens. I grew up in Columbia, Missouri on several acres of land that was one of the garden highlights of the state of Missouri. My grandparents had created the gardens in the 1930s and 1940s, and my father and mother ran a retail flower shop in the basement of our house. As a teenager, I spent many hours tending the fields under the watchful eye of my father. Soon after arriving in Champaign-Urbana, 20 years ago, gardens starting sprouting at my city house and later in my country house. I had the good fortune of working with Dennis Postlewaite, a professional gardener in Urbana, who worked with me to design and install several of my gardens.
