Calit2@UCI Associate Honored at Orange County Awards Ceremony

May 14, 2007 -- Gary Augusta, president and CEO of Calit2-affiliated organization OCTANe, was recognized as High-Impact Person of the Year at last week’s 14th annual AeA technology awards dinner in Newport Beach , Calif.

“The Race to Innovate” awards presentation held Thursday, May 10 at the Fairmont Hotel, was sponsored by the local chapter of national trade group AeA. It recognized local technology-based companies, individuals and products that drive innovation in Orange County and the Inland Empire .

OCTANe is an Orange County group that works to advance local businesses in the high-tech arena. It has helped 17 companies raise more than $33 million in capital through its LaunchPad program and created the OCTANe Foundation for Innovation, a public charity that advances science and technology in the area.

Augusta, a long-time Calit2 supporter, was seated at the UC Irvine table at the ceremony, with Irvine division director G.P. Li , affiliated professors Dan Mumm and Phil Collins, Calit2 associates Goran Matijasevic and Joon You, and others.

The evening’s Master of Ceremonies was Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle, and the keynote address was delivered by Ed Coleman, chief executive officer of Gateway Inc.

Other awards presented during the evening included Outstanding Woman in Technology, Outstanding Public Company, Outstanding CEO (for both public and private companies) and High-Impact Teacher in Science, Math and Technology.
