This workshop was held on August 22, 2002 to:
- Identify core strengths among faculty and researchers.
- Determine a scheme for integrating research activities.
- In a global sense, identify gaps in technology that require longer-term research and development.
- Begin building teams for the purpose of responding quickly to requests for proposals for funding.
