Calit2, SDSC to Hold Joint Town Hall Meetings in February
San Diego, Jan. 30, 2013 --Two of the largest research centers on the University of California, San Diego campus are joining forces to share ideas and propose solutions on how best they can align their research goals, initiatives and priorities with the campus plan.

At the Feb. 5 event at Calit2, Vice Chancellor for Research Sandra Brown will present an overview of the campus strategic planning initiative. Details about the Campus Strategic Planning Process are available online at http://plan.ucsd.edu.
Rao and Norman will then moderate what they hope will be a lively and constructive open discussion about the challenges facing researchers at UC San Diego.
SDSC and Calit2 hope to get feedback on questions such as:
- What attracted you to Calit2, SDSC or another research unit at UC San Diego?
- What keeps you here?
- What challenges do you face in developing your own career to the fullest?
- What will continue to attract the best researchers to UC San Diego?
- What can we do to improve the work lives of researchers on “soft money” appointments?
At the second event from 11am to 12:30pm on Feb. 28 in the SDSC Auditorium, the community will build on the previous discussion, and attempt to identify concrete goals that can be achieved over the next five years. Faculty, staff and students from both SDSC and Calit2 are invited to attend both sessions, which are open to the rest of the campus community as well.
