Call for new IDEAS (deadline extended to April 30)

IDEAS: Crossing Boundaries  (March 1 & 2, 2019)

Proposals are now being accepted for the Initiative for Digital Exploration of Arts and Sciences (IDEAS) 2020-2021 Performance Season

*Deadline extended: Due to impacts from COVID-19, the submission deadline has been extended to April 30

Artists, scientists, musicians and technologists are invited to propose works that push the boundaries of their disciplines for the next season of the UC San Diego Qualcomm Institute’s Initiative for Digital Exploration of Arts and Sciences (IDEAS).

The call for proposals for the 2020-2021 IDEAS season is now available online. All proposals must be submitted no later than April 30, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. through the online submissions form.

Artists can request up to $1,500 in funding that can be used for supplies, rentals, travel, honorarium for non-UC San Diego collaborators and other incidentals. Any purchased equipment will remain the property of Qualcomm Institute. The submissions should include a simple budget that lists how the requested money will be used.

The winning events will be staged and/or presented in the Institute's high-tech venues in Atkinson Hall on the UC San Diego campus beginning in the fall of 2020.

Proposals will be judged on the following:

IDEAS: Rise (May 9, 2019)

IDEAS was launched in 2013 to encourage UC San Diego artists, technologists, and scientists to take advantage of the Qualcomm Institute's advanced audio-visual facilities, services and personnel in developing and staging interdisciplinary new or existing works.

IDEAS: Time Unfolded  (December 5, 2019)

“This will be our seventh season of working with the UC San Diego community to foster, develop and showcase new, interdisciplinary and experimental research in the arts, sciences and technology, which is at the heart of the Qualcomm Institute’s mission,” said Department of Music professor Shahrokh Yadegari, who directs the program. “We look forward to reviewing the proposals and seeing how our artists and scientists will push boundaries in the next season of IDEAS.”

All performances and presentations will be open to the public and free of charge.
