Internet Leadership: A Second Opportunity for Southern California

6.03.04 -- The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for a faculty position in Environmental Engineering, beginning as early as Fall Quarter, 2004. The position is open to outstanding applicants at the Assistant Professor level. The candidate must have experience and interests in sensors for environmental monitoring, pollution control, water treatment technology, and/or enhancement of natural processes.



"We are looking for a promising researcher with expertise at the intersection of sensor technology, environmental science and water resources," said Brett Sanders, UCI associate professor in civil and environmental engineering, and Calit2 academic participant.



Orange County, California is a leader in the research and development of advanced water treatment technologies. Furthermore, a thrust area for research in the Department is in Information Technology, which includes the development and networking of sensors for Homeland Security environmental applications. Specific interest of the Department is in the area of environmental sensor technologies including MEMS and Bio-MEMS. The Department currently has active teaching and research strengths in the areas of earthquake engineering, structural/geotechnical engineering, transportation information and control systems engineering, and water resources and environmental systems engineering.



A doctoral degree from an engineering program is required. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department, and develop a strong externally funded research program. Candidates should send an application with a detailed resume, a statement of particular qualifications, including four references to the Chair of the Department.
