A good turnout of UCI faculty working on various Calit² projects and IT support staff turned out for the July seminar that presented data storage solutions. Steve Scharf, Systems Engineer for Dynamic Systems, led the seminar. Scharf is a certified Sun storage architect, systems administrator and network administrator.
Besides enjoying a light lunch, the classroom-like setting enabled those in attendance to ask questions, discuss potential project-based need and share their expertise.
Scharf's interactive presentation covered Sun Microsystems complete storage line with emphasis on the workgroup product line. There were technical discussions on reasons to share storage and storage technologies. Scharf detailed fibre channel storage area networking and advanced storage features including snap shot technology and replication.
Irvine division's assistant director of research development, Stuart Ross, and Ray Gedert from Dynamic Systems also participated in the presentation.
