Calit2 Graduate Fellows Convene Over Ice Cream
10.12.04 -- Life was sweet for 12 UC Irvine Calit² graduate fellows one recent autumn afternoon. The incoming fellows for the new academic year were treated to a get-acquainted ice cream social on campus, where they met each other and institute directors. Albert Yee, Irvine division director, and Larry Smarr, institute director, gave short presentations to the students before taking them on a tour of the still-under-construction-but-nearly-completed UCI Calit² building.

UCI's Calit² graduate fellow program is generously supported by Emulex Corp., manufacturers of data storage networking equipment. The program this year includes 13 students from several U.S. states, India and Turkey, who were recruited to UCI to complete their graduate work.

This year's fellows are working in fields across the Calit² spectrum, including mechanical and aerospace engineering; electrical and computer engineering; computer security, networks and imbedded systems; biomechanical engineering; civil and environmental engineering; and arts computation engineering (ACE).
