On July 19, Calit² layer leaders at UCSD briefed summer research fellows on the insitute's research activities in software and three applications areas. Since their orientation in early July, it was the first of three group meetings scheduled over the summer for the 22 undergraduates selected to be part of the 2002 program. Held at UCSD's Center for Research in Computing and the Arts (CRCA), the meeting featured presentations by Peter Arzberger, deputy leader of the Digitally Enabled Genomic Medicine (DEGeM) layer at UCSD; Bill Hodgkiss, layer leader for Environment & Civil Infrastructure; and Computer Science and Engineering professor Bill Griswold, the leader in charge of the Interfaces & Software Systems layer, who also gave fellows an overview of the Education layer. Streaming audio files of each presentation are available below (RealPlayer required), along with Adobe PDF files of their presentation graphics.
