San Diego, May 10, 2013 -- Professor Kevin Patrick, who directs the Qualcomm Institute's Center for Wireless and Population Health Systems (CWPHS), will moderate a panel on transforming biosciences via computing and data analytics. It will be part of Biosciences Day at the annual conference of the National Science Foundation's eXtreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE) program, which will take place in San Diego this July 22-25.

The discussion, called ‘Transforming Biosciences through Advancements in Computing and Data Analytics’, is part of Biosciences Day, to be held on Wednesday, July 24, at the San Diego Marriott Marquis and Marina in downtown San Diego. The panel of distinguished experts will discuss the role of computation and data analytics in supporting discovery throught the biological sciences.
Biotech companies throughout the greater San Diego area, as well as those from other locations, are being offered a special one-day registration opportunity to attend the discussion and related presentations, which will feature a diverse range of top local biotech executives. Attendance will also afford industry attendees an opportunity to interact with researchers and students from around the U.S.

Wilkins-Diehr also is an associate director with the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC), an Organized Research Unit of the University of California, San Diego.
