Calit2 Discusses Educational Exchange with National Science Council of Taiwan

9.06.01- Calit² recently hosted senior representatives of the National Science Council of Taiwan to explore opportunities for partnering particularly in the areas of faculty and student exchange. The NSC is a comparable body to the National Science Foundation in the U.S.

Ideas discussed included faculty exchanges for periods of 3-12 months and one-year student exchanges at both the graduate and undergraduate level. The areas of greatest mutual interest are information technology, bioinformatics, and nanotechnology.

The parties agreed to continue their discussions prior to formalizing this relationship in a memorandum of understanding. UCSD Division Director Ramesh Rao represented Calit² in these discussions. The NSC was led by Che-Ho Wei, chairman, and Maw-Kuen Wu, vice chairman.
