3.09.04 – Calit² is co-sponsoring the upcoming CENIC meeting March 15-17 at the Ritz Carlton in Marina del Rey, CA. The theme of the meeting is “Lighting a Path to Your Imagination.” This is the eighth annual conference hosted by the Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California that provides a forum for key players advancing high performance networking in the state. This conference draws leading educators, researchers, business people, and government representatives. Some 200 people are expected to attend.

Featured Calit² speakers on the program are

  • Mark Ellisman, PI of the Biomedical Informatics Research Network, who will provide a conference keynote address on Wednesday, March 17 at 9:15 AM. Ellisman will discuss the BIRN project, one of Calit² living labs, in a presentation titled “A Merger of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure and Multiscale Brain Research.” Ellisman is a member of the Digitally Enabled Genomic Medicine layer of the Calit² UCSD Division. He is also the director of the National Center for Microscopy and Imaging Research and the Center for Research in Biological Structure as well as a professor with joint appointments in the UCSD departments of Neuroscience and Bioengineering.
  • Greg Hidley, the UCSD Division’s chief infrastructure officer, will participate in a breakout session titled “The New Frontier Track” on Tuesday, March 16 at 1:30 PM.

Calit² will also host a research exhibit in the exhibits area that provides an overview of Calit²; information on networking research, related centers, testbeds, partnerships, and educational activities across UCSD and UCI; and ways industrial participants can partner.

In addition, Calit², represented by Stephanie Sides, director of communications, will help present the “On the Road to a Gigabit” awards, moderated by Susan Estrada, at the luncheon (approximately 1:00 PM) on Monday, March 15. Calit² director Larry Smarr was one of the judges for this year’s awards.
