5.13.04 -- Members of the GeoWall Consortium -- software developers, researchers, and educators -- met at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO), UCSD, May 10-11 to discuss development of 3-D stereo visualization tools supporting research in the geosciences.

The combination of new projection technology, fast graphics cards and inexpensive computers have made it possible to provide a stereo projection system that is much more affordable than previous commercial solutions. The GeoWall project makes use of these projection systems to visualize structure and dynamics of the Earth in stereo to aid the understanding of spatial relationships.

This meeting was organized by SIO visualization center staff Rob Newman, Debi Kilb, Atul Nayak, Graham Kent, and Kitty Haak. Paul Morin, Jason Leigh, Andy Johnson, Peter van Keken, and Brian Davis were on the steering committee that organized this meeting.
