June 15, 2004 -- UCSD Materials and Devices layer leader Ivan Schuller was appointed recently to the Royal Spanish Academy of Sciences along with S.C.C Ting, a Nobel Prize Winner in 1976. The citation reads (in English translation):
"The Royal Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences, in its plenary session of April 28, 2004, in consideration of the pertinent qualifications of your excellency, agreed to name you Foreign Corresponding member, assigned to the Physical and Chemical Sciences Section."
It was signed by the General Secretary, J. Javier Etayo.
Schuller is also a member of the Chilean and Belgian Academies of Sciences and a professor of Physics at UCSD. Schuller has won a number of other awards, the details of which can be found at http://physicalsciences.ucsd.edu/.
