UCI Calit2 Announces New Summer Undergrad Research Program

04.20.05 - The Irvine division of Calit2 is pleased to announce the launch of the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship in Information Technology (SURF-IT).  SURF-IT provides a unique 10-week summer research opportunity for UCI undergraduates to become immersed in IT-related research, applications and social implications under the guidance of Calit2 affiliated faculty.

SURF-IT is designed to help students develop the knowledge and skills that will propel them into graduate studies or careers in the various, multidisciplinary fields of telecommunications and information technology.  Participants will be able to choose from a variety of challenging research projects.   A series of seminars will provide opportunities to build knowledge and enhance dialogue about IT related topics. At the conclusion of the program, students will be prepared to share their research accomplishments by presenting their findings at the SURF-IT Poster Session and Closing Reception.

Eligible applicants are high-achieving, UCI undergraduates of at least junior standing in any discipline. Applications can be submitted online at http://www.urop.uci.edu/surf-it.html. Application deadline is Monday, May 2, 2005 .

The summer program runs June 26 - Sept. 2, 2005 . Program participants will receive a $4,000 stipend. SURF-IT will be administered jointly by Calit2 and the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP), with fellowship funding provided by Calit2.
