12.06.04 --Quent Cassen has joined the Calit² ResCUE program, bringing with him more than 30 years of engineering and management experience. ResCUE, a joint UCI-UCSD program funded by a $12.5 million National Science Foundation grant, is conducting research that will radically transform the ability of responding organizations to gather, manage, use, and disseminate information within emergency response networks and to the general public.
Cassen joined the Irvine division in October as ResCUE program manager. In his new position, he will oversee ResCUE's day-to-day operations, including the coordination of proposals, site visits, annual reports and other organizational tasks. In addition, Cassen hopes to utilize his wireless technology expertise in guiding the program.
Quent, who retired from Rockwell International Corp./Conexant in 2002, spent the past year working with UCI's Center for Embedded Computer Systems as a research relations officer. He is a senior member of the IEEE and has served as chairman of the organization's Orange County section.
