Calit² Director Wins
Press Club Award

3.8.02 - Calit² director Larry Smarr is one of twenty people honored March 7 at the 29th Annual Headliners Dinner. He won the 2002 Headliner Award in the category of Technology. The event is sponsored by the San Diego Press Club and was held at the U.S. Grant Hotel in downtown San Diego.

Other winners included San Diego Symphony conductor Jung-Ho Pak in the Arts category, Nobel Prize winner K. Barry Sharpless in Science, Baseball Hall of Fame sports legend Dave Winfield, and Harvey White, CEO of Leap Wireless (a Calit² industry partner), who won in the Business category. The first overall Headliners of the Year award went to the U.S. military, with representatives of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps accepting the awards to a standing ovation.
