March 27, 2006-- Albert Yee, director of the Irvine division of Calit2, and professor of chemical engineering and materials science, was one of 18 UCI professors named the most highly cited scholars in their field from 1981-1999. The list was compiled by Thomson Scientific, an independent firm that provides research information to scholars worldwide.

The list of highly cited scholars includes preeminent researchers in 21 subject categories who have demonstrated great influence in their field as measured by citations to their work. When one researcher cites another’s work, he/she is acknowledging the relevance of that work to the current study. Yee was acknowledged in the area of materials science; other research fields on the list include life sciences, medicine, physical sciences and social sciences. Fewer than one-half of one percent of all published researchers are included in the listing.
Two other Calit2 academic affiliates made the list as well. Nicholas Alexopoulous, co-chair of the Calit2 governing board and dean of The Henry Samueli School of Engineering at UCI, was named, as was Chin Lee, UCI professor of electrical engineering and computer science.
