10.11.06 -- Calit2 @UCI recently welcomed new corporate relations manager Tanya Zabalegui to its staff. Zabalegui brings to her new position nearly a dozen years of UC experience in program management, corporate relations and development.  She has spent time at both UCLA and UCSD, including several years with UCSD CONNECT, and also has experience working with technology start-ups.

In her new position, she will forge and nurture relationships with corporate partners, and will support the Irvine division’s strategic marketing, communications and external relations plan.

Zabalegui spent her first few weeks at Calit2@UCI helping to organize two large events.  The Igniting Technology event on telemedicine on Sept. 14, and the networking and communications symposium on Sept. 27 each attracted more than 100 participants – many of them corporate representatives – to the building.

“There’s a lot to learn, but I’m excited about the challenge,” said Zabalegui. “I’m looking forward to building relationships between Calit2 and local companies that will help the institute’s forward-looking research progress.”

Zabalegui currently serves as president of the Orange County chapter of the National Latina Business Women Association. In her rare spare time, she can be found reading, listening to music – flamenco, techno tango and salsa are her favorites – and spending time with her Argentine husband, Mariano.
