With Calit2 as a primary sponsor and venue, the IEEE International Conference on Service Oriented Computing & Applications (SOCA 2011) had a successful three day run at UC Irvine. The conference provided an international forum for researchers from multiple disciplines to exchange and share their experiences, ideas and latest research results on all aspects of service-oriented computing.

This year’s program, which was chaired by UCI engineering professor Kwei-Jay Lin, included a dedicated industry track, as well as invited talks, technical paper presentations, tutorials, workshops and panel discussions.

Each day’s session began with a plenary talk featuring a distinguished speaker on topics related to cyber-physical systems and Internet of Things.

“It was a productive conference with 140 papers presented during the week,” said Lin. “The participant feedback has been very positive with strong technical presentations, friendly discussion and a great venue.”

Calit2 director G.P. Li welcomed the nearly 200 participants from 20 countries on the opening day of the conference, introducing the audience to the institute’s research path that focuses on the digital transformation of healthcare, energy, the environment and culture.

SOCA is an annual conference of the IEEE Technical Committee on Business Informatics and Systems. The 2011 program was collocated at UCI with the 2011 International Conference on Knowledge Science, Engineering and Management (KSEM) and the 6th IEEE International Symposium on Service-Oriented System Engineering (SOSE).

The 2010 SOCA conference was held in Perth, Australia and the 2012 venue will be National Taiwan University in Taipei.
