Research: Dr. de Figueiredo's current research is focused on the emerging technologies of intelligent signal processing (ISP) and intelligent communications (IC). Conventional signal processing and communications deal with the processing and communication of 'information objects' present in one or more signals, images, and/or other data types. On the other hand, intelligent signal processing and communications deal with the processing and communication of 'collections of information objects,' called 'intelligence objects,' each collection exhibiting a relationship prevailing among its information objects, called 'intelligence,' which is of value to some end-user.
