This layer is developing and prototyping a region-wide, information technology-based transportation system to improve automobile and occupant safety, ensure safe and secure delivery of information to drivers, support new types of interaction between vehicles, and develop new forms of e-commerce. This layer will integrate sensors (cameras, microphones, proximity detectors), computing capability (image processing and scene analysis), and a wireless network infrastructure.
